Dr. Amy Nivette is an assistant professor in sociology at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, and completed her Ph.D. in criminology at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, UK. Her current research investigates how injustice, insecurity, and marginalization intersect to affect citizens’ perceptions and use of justice institutions, and the relation to crime and violence. She is currently working on a project with Dr. Thomas Akoensi (University of Kent) examining when and why residents of a marginalized slum seek out informal justice. She has previously written on the subjects of political legitimacy and cross-national homicide, violent vigilantism, youth aggression, and violent extremism
